2021 Mt Midoryama Classic Edition Petillant Naturel, Dolcetto/Chardonnay, King Valley

We call this our party pet nat , which is kind of lame (We agree) but kind of accurate. Grown down the mountain from home base in the Whitlands by the great man Richard Carson. The origins of the wine are disputed, Sam believes it was his idea, But Al knows for a fact it wasn’t. But what an inspired blend it is. Dolcetto is a real fruit forward pleasure machine and combined with racy Chardonnay and a touch of Gewürztraminer, gee whiz it makes for an electrifying blend. Get your rave on….

2019 Ephemera Wines, ‘Lone Star’ Sauvignon Blanc, Yarra Valley

From the Lone Star Vineyard in the Upper Yarra. This wine spent 18 months in old barrels without topping, and rested in bottle for 6 months. A big nod to the energetic and esoteric wines of the Jura, but with the weight and fruit generosity of the Yarra. 

2020 Bobar Chardonnay, Yarra Valley

This texturally silken, supremely elegant effort transparently and kaleidoscopically combines moss, wet stone, gentian, buddleia, coriander, pepper, piquant yet rich nut oils and a saline clam broth savour that milks the salivary glands. But besides this impressive array of non-fruity components, white peach and lemon deliver abundant primary juiciness and animating tang, rendering the finish as invigorating and refreshing as it is vibrant, mouthwatering and dynamically complex.

2020 CalyX ‘Cloud Patterns’ Viognier/Sauvignon Blanc, Pyrenees/Macedon

Equal parts Sauvy and Viognier, on skins for 3 weeks then sent to oak for 9 months. Lees work, to soften the early pick, natural acidity. Smells like an electric lawnmower going over a split tin of peaches in grass 3 weeks overdue for a mow

2021 Dirty Black Denim, Dolcetto/Syrah, King Valley/Sunbury

From the beautiful Corsini vineyard in Whitfield, King Valley and Arundel farm in Sunbury. Grown organically, the wine spent the night on skins before being pressed to old wood for ferment. Only in barrel for 3 months or so and bottled with no additions at all. Vibrant red fruits course through the mouth like blood through a vein. Chalky, almost flinty stone notes tighten the mouthfeel and mix well with loose fitting, granulated tannin. Summer day wine, or a one last bottle before a rough sleep wine.

2020 Le Timbre ‘CantoOsinato’, Pinot Noir, Macedon Ranges

CantoOstinato - Handpicked and wild fermented as always. Whole berry Macedon Pinot Noir fermented with some whole bunch. Pressed and aged in barrel for 10 months. Racked by gravity and bottled with no additions, except for a whisper of s02 (30ppm). Unfiltered and unfined as always. 80 dozen made. Tastes like wild berries & mountain herbs.

2020 Minim Wines, Sangiovese, Heathcote

Whole berry mostly, though a portion is carbonic maceration. From Chalmers Vineyard. Aromatic red of spice, sweet fruitiness, herbal notes, set to just on medium weight, sheathed in fine, feathery tannins, finishes succulent, firm and vibrant. Dark cherry, black brined olive characters, a bit of mulberry flavour and the finish is bony, stony and drying like black tea - Mike Bennie
