El Pacto comes from a certified organic vineyard, Finca 2R, in the Altamira subregion of the Uco Valley. The Altamira is approximately 100km south of Mendoza, at the southern end of the Uco Valley, on the eastern flanks of the Andes Mountains. An incredibly dry part of the world, the vineyards are irrigated from century-old canals that are fed from snow melt off the Andes. The vineyard sits perfectly in the Konpira Maru stable, sitting at 1065 m above sea level and featuring a staggering 20C diurnal temperature difference, leading to incredibly vibrant flavours but zippy acid. For us, the most striking component of these wines is their geological nature, truly tasting of the shaley soil.
Post cold soak, the wine was fermented in 100-year-old concrete fermenters and then aged in old french oak barriques, finishing malo the following spring.
This wine is an absolute belter - slate and berry aromatics with a long, lingering pallet underpinned with a fine bead of natural acidity. The cold soak is really evident here with a deep but bright hue and a freshness not often associated with Mendoza.
